O2 - Be launch enhanced broadband upload speed

O2 plans to launch a new service next month that will allow businesses to send data over their broadband networks much more quickly.
Upload Plus, which officially launches on December 4, will be offered by the mobile operator’s broadband division, Be.
Using the new service, businesses will be able to increase their maximum upload speed from up to 1.3 Mbps to 2.5 Mbps using Annex M of the ADSL 2+ standard.
Be claims to be the first UK internet service provider (ISP) to deliver this kind of offering.
Not all users’ lines will be able to take advantage of the increased speed, however.
Although Be claims that the majority of those located within 3 km of the exchange will qualify.
“We purchased Be because of the quality of its technology, service and people,” said O2 UK’s chief executive Matthew Key.
“We intend to continue building the Be business and proactively connecting to Be those O2 customers who want the best available broadband service.”
Key also detailed how other O2 innovations are faring.
He said: “Our plans to offer an integrated mobile and broadband service from O2 in mid 2007 are progressing well.
“These plans are driven by three aims: firstly, to make customers’ lives easier by helping them join up their mobile and internet worlds in a really simple way; secondly, to offer the best service quality and customer service in the market; and thirdly to give straightforward value for money.”
O2 also used the launch news as an opportunity to announce that, to date, Be has rolled out more than 300 exchanges across the UK, meaning it can potentially provide broadband services to almost a quarter of the population.
