Spain adds 361,000 more mobile lines in October

(TP) There were 361,169 new mobile phone lines activated in Spain in October, bringing the total number of active lines to 49.39 million, said the CMT. Spain’s telecoms regulator said that means the number of phone lines per person in Spain is now 110.49 percent. Vodafone and Movistar were the biggest gainers of new subscriptions, receiving 46.6 percent and 29.5 percent of them respectively, followed by Orange with 14.8 percent and Yoigo with 6.2 percent. Spain’s new virtual mobile operators gained 2.9 percent of the net gain in new lines. Mobile portability continued at a similar rate to previous months, said the CMT. A total of 319,444 requests were made to change operator, bringing the annual total to 3.53 million, 6.9 percent up on the same 10 months last year. Spain’s leading mobile operator Movistar came out a winner from portability, with a net gain of 16,570 numbers, followed by Spain’s fourth operator Yoigo with 5,807. Orange recorded a net portability loss of 17,791 numbers, followed by Vodafone and Euskaltel with 3,480 and 621 numbers each. The virtual mobile operators lost 485 numbers to portability.
