(TP) UK operator BT has unveiled details of its plas to roll out fibre to the home in the Ebbsfleet Valley in Kent, southeast England. From August 2008, fibre-optic cable will be used instead of copper to connect homes on Land Securities’ 1,000-acre housing project. Approximately 10,000 homes will be built at Ebbsfleet Valley, along with 6 million sq. ft of commercial space and 3 million sq ft of retail, leisure and community facilities. BT’s local access network manager Openreach will offer a fibre-based wholesale broadband product with speeds of up to 100 Mbps. This is BT’s first major FTTH project and will allow it to assess demand for future deployments of very high-speed broadband services.
