Open Source Linxter Messenger Released

Published August 13th, 2009

Linxter, Inc. today announces the release of Linxter Messenger (http://www.linxtermessenger.com), an open source sample app intended to illustrate the benefits of cloud messaging. .NET developers are welcome to play with the ready-to-run version, but encouraged to modify and extend the code to make it their own.

The current, ready-to-run version of Linxter Messenger is a free, basic desktop messenger offering features such as secure and reliable transfer, delivery timestamps, and online/offline functionality. Both the ready-to-run version and source files are available at http://www.linxterdeveloper.com/sample-apps/linxter-mess ….

With Linxter Messenger’s open source code and Linxter’s plug and play communication plumbing, the technical barrier to entry is dramatically lowered for developers who want their own app. The Linxter Messenger source code, available in C#, can be enhanced to implement features such as buddy list status, timestamps when messages are read, service lock-down for internal use only, and third-party app integration.

Creating your own messenger is now as easy as downloading the Linxter Messenger source code, creating a Linxter account to control your backend permissions and restrictions, and modifying the code to implement the features you want. Developers are encouraged to enhance the Linxter Messenger source code themselves, or if needed, contact Linxter Inc. to find someone who has already worked with Linxter.

Linxter, Inc. released Linxter Messenger as part of an ongoing effort to ensure that Linxter provides the ultimate ease of use experience for developers. Our goal is to provide the developer community with a variety of sample apps made possible with Linxter’s in-the-cloud communication plumbing.
