DNS Made Easy Continues to Redefine DNS Services

Pubished December 31st, 2009

DNS Made Easy (dnsmadeeasy.com), the world leading IP anycast managed DNS service provider, has announced an exceptional end to it’s first decade. Since 2003 DNS Made Easy has remained the standard for IP Anycast DNS services has been the fastest growing IP anycast provider since then. DNS Made Easy currently is authoritative for more domain under it’s control over any other IP anycast DNS provider.

DNS Made Easy started offering DNS services in 2002 with the goal of offering enterprise level DNS services to the general public. They were able to offer DNS services for a fraction of the standard DNS provider and offer excellent support and service in the process. In 2003 DNS Made Easy took on the challenge of offering IP Anycast DNS services for the same price and soon was the world’s fasting growing IP Anycast DNS provider. Now that 2009 is almost over DNS Made Easy remains the largest enterprise IP Anycast DNS provider in the world in regards to the number of domains that it is authoritative for. More domains use DNS Made Easy name servers either through direct delegation or vanity delegation than any other IP anycast provider on the planet.

“Our belief at DNS Made Easy is that any group, or company should be able to afford an IP Anycast DNS solution,” states Steven Job, President at DNS Made Easy. “Our staff has been able to offer a service that is a fraction of the cost of any other IP anycast provider. This has allowed all of our companies the ability to grow and work on what they do best. This takes a strong amount personal dedication by each one of our employees. To this day we are still the only IP Anycast DNS provider that will allow a start-up company to go from an idea to a major Internet presence all under one set of services.”

As all employees at DNS Made Easy know, DNS Made Easy has a long standing internal motto of ‘Takes three Ss to get the fourth.’ “If you focus on stability, security, and support at a price range that all companies can afford, then you will be successful,” states Steven Job. “I like to believe that this has allowed us to become the defacto standard for DNS services in the world today. But this does not mean that we can not do better, we need to do better, and we will do better. We want to become a company that everyone is proud to be associated with.”

DNS Made Easy has recently released successful campaigns to be better Internet and world citizens by successfully following it’s ‘Going-Green Inititive’. This was an self-driven internal project done by DNS Made Easy to reduce it’s energy footprint on the world. This along with DNS Made Easy long standing contributions to charity and education has made everyone at DNS Made Easy aware that the company is more then just a profit-driven sales tactic. Being a company that the employees are proud to work for is something that everyone feels in the halls of their main office in Reston Virginia.

One of the most surprising facts about DNS Made Easy is that it historically not solicited it’s customers. Most customers of DNS Made Easy are all referrals that have now reached four or five degrees of separation. This is a big difference of other major IP anycast DNS providers that are driven by large sale commissions and less ethical sales approaches. More information about the DNS Made Easy service is available at www.dnsmadeeasy.com. About DNS Made Easy DNS Made Easy is a subsidiary of Tiggee LLC and is a leader in providing global IP Anycast enterprise DNS services. DNS Made Easy launched their DNS services and web management portal in 2002 and has grown to manage hundreds of thousands of customer domains receiving more than 2 billion queries per day. UK ISP Consumers Put Broadband Reliability Before Speed and Price

Pubished December 30th, 2009

The results from 1043 respondents to ISPreview’s latest survey reveal that 42% of people rate ‘Reliability’ as the most important factor when picking a new broadband ISP, which is closely followed by ‘Speed’ (37%). Interestingly ‘Price’ is no longer seen as being the key factor, with just 15% voting for that. Both ‘Support’ (3.6%) and ‘Services [email etc.]‘ (2%) came bottom.

Despite Price being considered less important than Reliability and Speed, some 30% of respondents still pay around ÂŁ20 per month for their broadband service, 25% paid around ÂŁ15 and a surprising 21% are paying more than ÂŁ25+. Furthermore 16% pay roughly ÂŁ10 per month and 8% just ÂŁ5 per month (the cheaper services may have been taken as part of a cut-price bundle).

It’s interesting to contrast this with a survey conducted at the same time last year, which found that 52.4% thought their Internet service was too expensive. Little wonder that today’s survey also revealed how 61% of respondents considered themselves ‘Likely’ or ‘Very Likely’ to change ISP in 2010 (Unlikely 21.5%, Very Unlikely 17%).

“Thanks to the competitive market and increasing maturity of unbundled broadband services, consumers now have plenty of choice, thus most now seek reliability as their top criteria when considering a new ISP,” commented ISPreview.co.uk’s Editor and Founder, Mark Jackson. “There was a time when price would have been considered more important but, in the age of growing demand for new media, content and a greater quality of service, this appears to be changing.”

“However it is still difficult to find the perfect parity between a highly reliable/fast service and one that also comes with a lower price tag, never the less there appears to be no shortage of consumers who are willing to search for the holy grail and an increasing plethora of services for them to take a chance on. Sky Broadband’s Unlimited package and Virgin Media’s faster cable broadband products come to mind. Never the less, a truly high quality service rarely comes cheap – you get what you pay for,” concluded Jackson.

Google Loses Domain Name Dispute

Pubished December 30th, 2009

Google has lost an arbitration over the domain name, Groovle.com. In a decision released today, The National Arbitration Forum, dismissed Google’s complaint (Claim Number: FA0911001293500) that it was entitled to the domain name, Groovle.com. Google had claimed that the domain name Groovle.com, is “confusingly similar” to its trademark for “Google.” The National Arbitration Forum is an international arbitration service accredited by ICANN, the international agency that oversees the Internet, to provide resolution services for domain name disputes around the world.

The unanimous three person panel composed of two retired American judges and one American law professor, ruled that Groovle.com “is not confusingly similar” to Google’s trademark, “Google.” To-date, Google has commenced 65 domain name disputes and this is only the second time that it has ever lost.

Young Canadian entrepreneurs Jacob Fuller and Ryan Fitzgibbon, who have been friends since high school, launched the innovative Groovle.com web site in 2007, and it has proven immensely popular with young Internet users. As Fuller explains, “Groovle was created to provide users the ability to upload photos and customize their Internet start page. We thought it would be a cool feature to have a nice photo of friends, family etc., every time you launch your web browser, instead of the very plain Google.com and Yahoo.com page.” Says Fitzgibbon, “Since we launched Groovle in 2007, Google, Bing and Ask.com have each come out with something similar.”

Groovle’s young creators are elated with the decision. “We were stunned when Google launched the domain name dispute as we have great respect for Google and have always had a good relationship with them,” said Ryan Fitzgibbon. Jacob Fuller added that, “Google never had anything to fear from our web site. The arbitrators’ decision that the two domain names are sufficiently different should put Google at ease and we look forward to a renewed positive relationship with Google.”

Groovle was successfully defended by renowned domain name lawyer and Internet law expert, Zak Muscovitch, who says, “Google clearly miscalculated here, however, my clients are prepared to put this behind them.”

Nokia requests ITC investigation into Apple patent infringement

Pubished December 29th, 2009

Nokia announced it has today filed a complaint with the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) alleging that Apple infringes Nokia patents in virtually all of its mobile phones, portable music players, and computers.

The seven Nokia patents in this complaint relate to Nokia’s pioneering innovations that are now being used by Apple to create key features in its products in the area of user interface, as well as camera, antenna and power management technologies. These patented technologies are important to Nokia’s success as they allow better user experience, lower manufacturing costs, smaller size and longer battery life for Nokia products.

“Nokia has been the leading developer of many key technologies in small electronic devices” said Paul Melin, General Manager, Patent Licensing at Nokia. “This action is about protecting the results of such pioneering development. While our litigation in Delaware is about Apple’s attempt to free-ride on the back of Nokia investment in wireless standards, the ITC case filed today is about Apple’s practice of building its business on Nokia’s proprietary innovation”

About Nokia

Nokia is a pioneer in mobile telecommunications and the world’s leading maker of mobile devices. Today, we are connecting people in new and different ways – fusing advanced mobile technology with personalized services to enable people to stay close to what matters to them. We also provide comprehensive digital map information through NAVTEQ; and equipment, solutions and services for communications networks through Nokia Siemens Networks.

During the last two decades, Nokia has invested approximately EUR 40 billion in research and development and built one of the wireless industry’s strongest and broadest IPR portfolios, with over 11,000 patent families. Nokia is a world leader in the development of handheld device and mobile communications technologies, which is also demonstrated by Nokia’s strong patent position.

Perst 4.0 Embedded Database Broadens Solution for the .NET Framework

Pubished December 29th, 2009

McObject® has released Perst™ 4.0, the latest upgrade of its open source, object-oriented embedded database for Microsoft’s .NET Framework. Version 4.0 greatly expands Perst’s usefulness in a broad range of C# applications by enabling it to add persistence to any object—including objects created by other programs, those for which source code is unavailable, and even objects created in different programming languages.

The Perst 4.0 release caps a series of substantial upgrades, resulting in a Perst for the.NET Framework that is substantially faster and more scalable, provides richer programming tools and solves a wider range of application development challenges. Recent improvements include:
Support for Language Integrated Query (LINQ), which adds SQL-like data querying and filtering, type safety, and greater programming efficiency via the IntelliSense feature in Microsoft Visual Studio
Multi-version concurrency control (MVCC) or fine-grain locking, enabling multiple simultaneous users to work more efficiently with Perst
Simplified management of database index updates
The k dimensional tree (KD-Tree) data index for spatial and pattern-matching applications (adding to the R-Tree, T-Tree, B-Tree and other indexes already supported)
Full-text search, both as a native Perst feature and through integration with the Apache Lucene information retrieval library
A revamped, MSDN-like Perst API guide for .NET Framework users
A new 38-page Introduction and Tutorial that guides users through Perst’s features and design principles, using both explanation and C# code examples.
In the just-released Perst 4.0, new support for “foreign” objects brings Perst’s benefits of high performance, a small footprint, and features such as ACID (Atomic, Consistent, Isolated and Durable) transactions, a SQL-like interface and specialized collections classes to many new categories of applications developed in C#.

From its inception, Perst has been able to create and manage objects derived from its Persistent class. Version 4.0 enables the embedded database to store objects derived from any class. As a result, Perst can be added as storage for existing applications such as commercial or open source class frameworks, including GUI classes, object-request brokers, and industry-specific solutions; UML modeling tools that generate classes from wizards; and programs whose source code is not available.

“We are pleased to work with McObject on the latest upgrade of its Perst embedded database for the .NET framework,” said Valerie Olague, Senior Partner Marketing Manager at Microsoft Corp. “The database provides programming resources that assist developers and OEMs in overcoming challenges, reducing time-to-market and driving the next generation of smart, connected, service-oriented devices.”

“Recent industry consolidations have reduced the number of vendors specializing in embedded database technology,” McObject CEO and Co-founder Steve Graves said. “Our improvements to Perst demonstrate McObject’s commitment to offering an open source database for the .NET Framework, with characteristics such as a small footprint, zero administration and fast performance that make it ideal for embedding. We will continue to expand Perst’s usefulness in solving the widest range of .NET Framework database management challenges.”

Perst 4.0 for the.NET Framework, with full source code, can be downloaded fromhttp://www.mcobject.com/perst_eval

Fujitsu Launches Cloud-based Services

Pubished December 28th, 2009

Fujitsu announced the launch in Japan of its Workplace LCM Service, which leverages a cloud-based platform to provide total outsourcing support over the lifecycle of customer ICT equipment, including personal computers, printers, multifunction copiers(1), and on-site departmental servers.

Workplace LCM Service is designed to keep pace with the diverse work styles and multivendor ICT environment at customer offices. The outsourcing service is available for a monthly fee and covers all tasks involved in the ICT equipment lifecycle, ranging from planning and acquisition to deployment, day-to-day operations, equipment retirement, and disposal.

Previously only available for PC management, the new service ext outsourcing to printers, multifunction copiers, servers, and other ICT equipment, while also adding a wide range of new sought-after offerings, including security measures and mobile access. In addition, the previous outsourcing service for PCs has been expanded into Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS)(2) to deliver a host of business applications to PCs at customer sites via the Internet.

As working styles have grown more diverse and the speed of business has accelerated, companies have found themselves needing to support an increasingly diverse ICT environment that includes not only office-based PCs but also laptops used at customer premises or the homes of employees.

At the same time, ICT departments are bearing a vastly increased workload, with the need to support a greater diversity of ICT equipment, implement mobile connectivity that delivers a secure working environment outside of the office, and deal with increasingly complex security management issues. Doing this while lowering costs, as well as increasing flexibility for end users, has become increasingly challenging.

To take pressure off ICT departments, Fujitsu has revamped its PC-LCM Service, which provided PC outsourcing to approximately 400 companies since its launch in 2004. Now renamed Workplace LCM Services, this new suite of services will help customers reduce operating costs and administrative workloads while providing end users with a flexible working environment, not only for PCs, but for a wide range of ICT equipment.

Workplace LCM Service Benefits

1.Simple software management with DaaS
Security concerns have led to a growing demand for thin-client support, but high startup costs have been a barrier to deployment. To overcome this barrier, Fujitsu has equipped its trusted cloud platform with a client-virtualization management system as its standard environment. By offering this service as DaaS, startup costs for software installation are reduced. Furthermore, the use of software templates for transition and operations greatly shortens the rollout time.

2.Comprehensive support for multi-vendor environments
Fujitsu handles a wide range of duties associated with the hardware and software that make up the end-user ICT environment, including PCs from Fujitsu and other manufacturers, thin clients, printers, multi-function copiers, and on-site departmental servers, all while maintaining high quality service delivery. These activities are complemented by a variety of collaboration services to enhance operational efficiency, such as electronic mail and file storage(3), unified communications(4), as well as by network services to securely connect offsite mobile users to the office network.

3.Hardware and software resources provided as a monthly service
For a monthly service fee, Fujitsu provides all the IT resources customers need for their end-user environment, including hardware and software resources from other manufacturers. Fees vary based on the number of users and workstations, allowing clients to reduce and smooth out asset holding costs.

4.Consolidated management using an advanced services platform
The service management system is built on Fujitsu’s cloud platform and includes incident management, configuration and asset management, resource distribution and other functions. By establishing this system as the standard environment, shorter lead times, lower startup costs, and a higher level of quality and standardization in end-user environments can be realized.

5.Consistent service on a global level
Using the Fujitsu Group’s international resources, Fujitsu can deliver the same quality and processes to locations outside of Japan that it does inside Japan. This ensures that customers with global operations can rely on consistent ICT operations and higher-quality governance overall.

Workplace LCM Service Menu

1. Workplace Infrastructure Service:
Provides infrastructure (personal computers, thin clients, multi-function copiers, software, etc.) necessary to end-user environments as a monthly fee-based service.

2. Virtual Desktop Service (DaaS):

3. Service Desk Service:
Provides a general support desk for responding to IT-related inquiries from end users.

4. Desktop Management Service:

5. Managed Print Service:
Lifecycle support for printers and multi-function copiers installed in the office.

6. Collaboration Service:
Provides a set of services that contribute to more efficient work and heightened productivity, including e-mail and unified communications.

7. Service Management:

Digital Rebellion Releases FCP Versioner

Pubished December 26th, 2009

Digital Rebellion LLC, creator of the popular FCS Maintenance Pack for troubleshooting Final Cut Studio, today announced the availability of FCP Versioner, a utility to automatically back up Final Cut Pro projects in XML format and generate changelogs to show modifications between revisions. FCP Versioner is an essential tool in managing Final Cut Pro projects, providing feedback to producers and ensuring that projects are safely backed up in case of disaster.

FCP Versioner automatically generates an XML copy of a project file or sequence whenever the project is saved, offering a more resilient backup than a standard Final Cut Pro project and providing the ability to receive information about changes between revisions. Backups can be easily restored to Final Cut Pro simply by double-clicking them.

In addition, Versioner offers a wealth of options for managing backups to ensure they don’t consume too much disk space. Rather than simply keeping a certain number of total backups, which may not be fully representative of the day’s work, Versioner can choose to keep a certain number per day, week or month, allowing you to see much further back in time while minimizing disk usage.

FCP Versioner offers three main advantages over more general backup solutions and the autosave feature in Final Cut Pro:
1. It gives a list of changes rather than just a filename or date
2. It saves the project as XML, providing a plain-text version for safety and compatibility
3. It offers flexible backup management options to ease disk usage

Key Features:
* Automatically creates a backup every time a Final Cut Pro project is saved
* Each backup has a changelog listing exactly what changed between revisions
* Backups are in XML format which has durability and compatibility advantages over FCP project files
* Flexible backup management options to fully customize how older backups are purged
* Autosaves the project file at specified intervals

Pricing and Availability:
FCP Versioner is available for $59 (USD) retail, with student and volume licensing discounts available. A fully-functional 15 day trial is available to give users a complete taste of the software’s capabilities. More details about FCP Versioner, including a user manual and trial download link, are available on their website.

gukPhone Launch VPN and SSL VoIP Telephony

Pubished December 17th, 2009

GUK Communications Ltd. has launched the new gukPhone V2 Flash client, the new client support Instant Messaging features like user-to-user calls, with the new client, the users can encrypt thier communication by using SSL Technology. The gukPhone account of registered user can use any SIP device and support VPN (Virtual Private Network) PPTP to encrypt thier communication on http://www.gukphone.com

“The new services we have launched support VPN for all users they want to use a VPN Tunnel to the gukPhone platform, but what does this mean? There are two big advantages, if you setup a VPN Tunnel to the gukPhone platform nobody can see what service are you using, this make it possible to use VoIP inside every Network, also 3G and GPRS . But the most relevant reason why we setup this service is the incredible increase of the voice quality, with the VPN Tunnel you can use a Satellite Internet connection for your telephone calls and the delay will decrease dramatically. Now the user only needs a bandwidth of 64KB to have a good voice quality, this make the use of VoIP applications inside Mobile Devices like iPhone within 3G and GPRS Network’s possible” said Ricardo Palazzi from GUK Communications.

There are many scenarios how the new gukPhone services can be used:
- The gukPhone client software, that works inside the Browser window as a Flash Applet, within the Browser you can use User-to-User calls and telephony to external numbers with very low rates and the option to using SSL Encryption to make the conversation secure.

- After setup a VPN Connection to the gukPhone platform (with the on board client from Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 or Mac) the user can connect his preferred SIP Softphone to gukPhone by using encrypted connection for using chat or telephony.

- There is also the option to install a VPN tunnel by using openVPN and connect the users SIP Servers or clients to the gukPhone platform for making outgoing calls.

- Mobile Clients from the most relevant Manufacturers having a VPN and VoIP client software inside their phones, the gukPhone platform is the first which make the combination of both services to the End-users easy to use, possible.
Related service providers offering telephony services, and charge substantially higher fees per minute plus a connection fee, with gukPhone people will save money.

gukPhone uses most recent technology for high-quality voice communication. All services have been developed by GUK Communications Ltd. With the implementation as a RIA service (Rich Internet Application), users do not need to download, upgrade and/or install new software – after navigating to the phone, every user has the recent version of the application available. The phone works on Windows, Mac, Linux and Solaris.

About:
GUK Communications Ltd. is developing and integrating solutions around VoIP and RIA. The combination of traditional telephony and VoIP is the primary goal.

ShareTool 1.3.5 extends Bonjour over the internet securely

Pubished December 17th, 2009

Yazsoft has released a major new update to ShareTool. Developed for Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later, ShareTool is an award winning utility that lets you connect to all of the Bonjour services on your home or office network from anywhere in the world securely over a 100% SSH encrypted connection. This includes iTunes Music Sharing, Screen Sharing, File Sharing, printing, and much more. No configuration. No complication. No server or technical skills required. Just a mouse click. ShareTool also works with VPN connections. For anyone that’s been itching to get Bonjour working over VPN, ShareTool is for you!

What is ShareTool and why should you care?

Scenario: You’ve just purchased a brand new iMac and MacBook and are simply loving it. You’ve set up your home or office network exactly the way you want it. You have file sharing between the two machines and can transfer your documents easily between them; you can listen to your iMac’s iTunes Library from the MacBook and view your MacBook’s iPhoto Library from your iMac. Everything on your network works exactly as you want it to and life is beautiful.

What happens when you have to leave (i.e. work or travel) the comfort of your new custom configured network? Wouldn’t it be nice to know that with one mouse click you will be able to access almost everything you’ve just setup from anywhere in the world securely? Before ShareTool, this was simply not possible without an extremely (if at all possible) complicated setup even for those in the know. Not anymore! With ShareTool, that complex procedure is reduced to a simple mouse click and as a result, yes, you can be at two places at the same time!

ShareTool lets you access all of the Bonjour services on your home network from anywhere in the world. This includes iTunes Music Sharing, Screen Sharing, File Sharing, printing, and more.

With ShareTool, you can listen to your entire iTunes music library at work, control the screen of any of your home computers, or grab that important file you forgot to bring with you. And this is simply the tip of the iceberg. With ShareTool, it’s as if you’ve never left your own network. It’s Back to my Mac – on steroids.

Some Key New Features in ShareTool:
* Simple Setup: ShareTool automatically configures routers supporting NAT-PMP or UPnP
* Easy Access: Remote services automatically appear in Finder, iTunes, and other applications
* Compatibility: ShareTool enables remote access for any application or service that advertises itself using Bonjour and runs over TCP/IP
* Security: All network traffic is strongly encrypted. Access to your services requires your Mac OS X username and password
* Dynamic domain name support
* On the fly compression: Transfer large files quickly
* Secure web browsing: surf the internet using your own browser securely
* and much more

What’s New in version 1.3.5:
* New: The Mac OS X “short” username is now displayed for reference.
* New: Clicking on a “x-sharetool” URL now sets the correct username automatically.
* New: ShareTool can now authenticate using private keys in custom locations.
* Fixed: ShareTool now recovers gracefully from certain unexpected UPnP errors.
* Fixed: Bug related to public key authentication.

Enterprise Desktop Alliance Conducts Survey of 2010 Mac Plans

Pubished December 16th, 2009

The Enterprise Desktop Alliance today opened a new survey to query IT administrators about their plans to support the Mac in their Windows-centric IT environments. The results of the survey will provide an update to the Enterprise Desktop Alliance’s 2008 survey which reported:

* 90% of respondents stated that integration with Windows was important to their organization
* Active Directory integration was the number one issue for Mac integration in a Windows-managed environment.
* 74% of the respondents expected to increase the number of Macs in their organization.

Results of the original Survey, “Administrators Speak Out About Managing the Mac in a Windows Infrastructure,” conducted in December 2008 are available at the Enterprise Desktop Alliance web site.

The current survey looks back to whether those plans were realized during the last difficult year. It also goes into greater depth on the priorities of those tasked with managing Macs in a Windows oriented IT infrastructure. The survey hopes to determine if priorities have shifted and purchasing plans have been affected.

Because the member companies of the Enterprise Desktop Alliance provide cross-platform solutions it will be valuable to have responses from IT administrators responsible for both Windows and Mac management to contribute to the survey at Enterprise Desktop Alliance 2009 Survey.
